F9F Panther in Flight.

I want to build this kit in flight. It's pretty simple but the cockpit detail is decent with some careful painting.

This kit is not designed for a in flight build. I added this Airfix 1/72 pilot form the Martlet mk.4 kit. It looks pretty decent from a distance. It will be enough.
I needed to cut some material near the hips and legs to get him to fit the seat. But the cockpit itself has a lot of space so he can keep his legs and feet for ones.

I primed the cockpit tub with black and painted it dark green. The raised detail is very decent. This make the painting very fun. This kit has no decals for the cockpit. I also fixed the pilot to the seat.

I modified the landing gear covers to make it possible to close them for the in flight look. Not much is needed and the fit is decent. I used styrine sheet for the modifications.

Even though the detail is pretty simple I'm happy with the result.

I added some detail to the cockpit area that will be seen true the canopy.

I 3d printed a base out of 2 pieces and drilled a hole on the underside of the plane. I will use some clear sprue as a stand.

I painted the final parts of the cockpit area and masked the canopy frame.

I want to make a sea base and I saw this technique to make a sea base. Without using resin. I used superglue to on the first layer of foil. This layer consists out of rollled foil and small sheets in between.
After this I added 2 layers of foil over the first layer glued with white glue. I aplied 3 layers of white glue over the final foil layer as a primer and to hide the sharp edges.

Not bad for a first try. I should have used more green to get a more sea like colour. But I will try this more in the future.

I preshade the plane with a light blue to compliment the dark blue scheme.

I like the shading I got. The fule tanks are left off to make the masking of the siver parts easier. I reprimed the silver parts in black.

I used light valejo metal colour white alluminium to get a almost white silver effect. I really like these paints.

The decals in this kit are great. But the red nose decals is hard to get right. I needed some red paint to fix the placement.

I used dark night wash for the silver parts of the plane and grey panelliner form Tamiya for the dark blue parts. I wasn't sure but I wanted to get some contrast going. I also decided to paint the tip of the vertical stabilzer instead of using the decals.

I do like the faded effect of the grey wash. I laso added a black wash to the airbrake holes.

I added some more weathring to the walking areas and i Tried a semi-gloss finish. This didn't go very well and the paint finish is not as smooth as i would like. After the weathering I painted the landing lights.

Fnial parts are added and painted. The masking of the engine parts worked great. The grainy finish can be seen at a close-up. I used silver for the chipping effect and a light blue drybrush for the faded effect and scratches.

I finished the model. Very happy with this fast mojo build. I tried some new things and I still have a long way to go on some techniques.

Thanks everyone this was a fun build. @ P Swiss: I used mr.color 328 US NAVY blue Angles. I like that it is a bit lighter compared midnight blue. That works a bit better in this scale.

I really like the look of the F9F Panther and wanted to make a in flight diorama like I did with the BF-109e and f-16.
I bit of scratch building is needed to make this kit wheels-up.
- Added a Airfix pilot form the Martlet kit.
- The landing gear covers are modified to be closed.
- Added detail to the gun sight.
- Added detail behind the cockpit.
