September 19, 2024Sherman IIA, 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, Gothic Line, Northern Italy, December 1944. The Sherman IIA (M4A1 w/ 76mm gun) was first used by the US Army in July 1944. By September 1944, British tank brigades in Italy began to receive Sherman IIIA's to make good shortages of Sherman II (75mm) tanks despite the RAC preferring the latter. By the end of December 1944, 7th AB reported 61 Sherman IIA tanks on hand.
Kit is by Italeri, bashed with wheels and sprockets from spares and Star decals. OD paint is by Ammo MIG with subtle modulation.2
