Honest review: 6.5/10
Things I liked:
Really good masks, aftermarket roundels, good quality kit given its age, easy to put together, quite good detail and happy with the end result.
Things I do not like:
Paint is completely wrong colour, I went for the faded NATO green on the last RAF Hercules as I wanted it to look warn and heavily used. I used Humbrol H80 spray which is the complete wrong colour and far too light. I used a test piece which came out how I wanted but the end result didn't match.
The painting of the icing rings on the engines was done by hand and a super sloppy job by myself. Not one of my finest.
Fit: the wings did not go on perfect and some large gaps to seal up. Fuselage is also very slightly warped so you can see washout angle between the left wing and left elevator from the back.
Xtradecals C-130 walkways were an absolute NIGHTMARE to put on. They're about half a mm thick and were a disaster to put on. Would honestly prefer thicker transparent decal sheets.
Interior: having worked on the Js myself the interior is completely wrong but I think a lot of the sprue is made from an E or K model Herc. I'll
Be doing the Zvezda J30 Herc soon which is a lot more accurate.
Instruction sheets are not very clear on the radio and RF equipment antennas and which are used for which versions on the decal sheet. I'm not sure the AAR probe is the right size but looks quite good on the final model.
Overall:
This was a really fun build after a long time absent from model making and I would love to make more Hercs (Space permitting)

Album info
This started as a Christmas 2024 built and is intended to be one I pick up whenever I get the time to do a little bit more.
Note 1: I've realised the italeri cockpit seats aren't quite the correct shape as they don't have the head rest as shown on a C-130J. Also a bit disappointed with the interior as it doesn't have the centre wingbox geometry or the roof rails.
