The new kit comes with a nicely detailed nozzle that builds up beautifully. Since I was building this kit alongside the Super Messiah, the nozzle was the first one I started working on - at least photo-wise.

The kit doesn’t come with any cockpit decals - not a real problem so long as you follow through coloring guide and light up some switches.

Time to seal up the fuselage. It’s Hasegawa, so it cosmetics together without any issues.

The wing roots went on fairly well. The wingtip missile rail had to be cut off and replaced with the newer rail.

The Hasegawa seats lacked the detail on top, namely the straps. This was covered with some painted Tamiya strips.

Lights are treated with silver coating prior to painting the transparent Red and Green paints on the other side.

The kit didn’t come with the USAF Decals. Time for printed decals.
Even though the Vipers / Falcons are parked under the shade, the Arizona sun does quite a number on any paint job - fading was applied within the panels, but is hidden by the gloss coat.

Fighting with fitting GBUs under the pylons is a royal pain, so I opted to use magnets this time around.

The drop tanks were scribed with a bit more detail - courtesy of the photo shots from Nathan’s reskit photos for his F-16.
The crew at Luke AFB does a good job of keeping their jets clean, so I focused on the discoloration from the harsh Arizona sunlight. The drop tanks have some JP40 streaks when the fuel spills from the fill up.

Final upload of the finished product. Lighting not the best, we'll have to look into that later.
I chose the Arizona markings for Luke Air Force Base in part homage to Desert Marlin and Max Afterburner, Arizonans who motivated me with their aircraft builds over the years.

Neuling, I thought long and hard about weathering this bird up a lot, but opted against rain weathering, since it doesn't rain at all in Arizona! The sun bleaching didn't turn out as striking as I would have wanted after the gloss and Matt coating - but there's always the next kit! 😜

Album info

The F-16F is the latest iteration of this classic fighter with updated avionics for the UAE order. Although the USAF does not fly this upgraded model, it did grace Luke AFB which saw the jet undergo flight testing and training.

Hasegawa's 1/48 F-16 series is starting to look a bit dated with some flash, but it's still a good kit that builds up nicely.
