Gloster Meteor build

Cockpit and ejector seat assembled complete with Eduard PE interior and harnesses. 

Ejector seat in the cockpit. Eduard instrument panel is pretty. It’s wonky though - my error. 

Those seat belts are nice even if they’re fiddly. Nice colours. 

Eduard PE is pretty but very fiddly! 

Wings started, wheel casings painted and installed. Most enjoyable. Trying out a gloss black undercoat - will need to be sanded down. 

Clamps to make sure it sticks together. Game changer.  

And clamps on the fuselage. Excellent. Didn’t put weight in the nose because I an amateur idiot. 

Test fit of fuselage and wings, which snapped together with an air of finality. We’ll see if this was a mistake! 

Fuselage and wings successfully glued together. I’ve built and painted the engines too, which was fun.

Those engines in close up. This really is a fun kit to build, a bit gappy in places but planes often are. Tons of nice detail to play with.

An essential accessory to the modelling process. 

I’ve sprayed a fairly thin layer of Vallejo gloss black primer over the top half of the Meteor. 

The gloss primer will be curing for a while before I start spraying AK chrome metal over it. I’m not convinced by the AK metal colours, they’re often too thin (or more accurately I’m not skilled enough at applying them). We’ll see.

Not convinced the gloss primer was a good idea. The lustre on the tail fins that didn’t have primer is much glossier. I guess it’s a learning process.  

Pretty good overall, some weird bits, still fun.  

Managed to get the under carriage on without too many issues. 

I masked off some engine exhaust weirdness earlier, bit sharp but pretty 

Then I tried adding some panel lines and weathering and oh dear, totally over did it 

Grimes and not necessarily in a good way 

Grubby.  

At least the exhaust still looks ok 

And this one’s alright. Going to need to respray some bits.

Decent overall look. 

Went for a weird angle for the coloured triangles under the wings.  

The coloured areas will change a lot once the decals go on and I do a bit more panel lining. 

Some nice grimy swirls on the sides. Love the exhausts. 

Overall it’s much better. Like the yellow band and the weathered blue on the tail fins. 

Gun ports look alright. Tempted to leave the canopy off so you can see the cockpit better. 

Pretty good overall.
