September 13, 2020Just getting started - sprayed the interior parts and started some cockpit details. The cockpit decals are a pain - too big for the parts, expected to conform over raised bits (on the front panel). It took a lot of patience and microsol to get them to stick and wrap around the edges of the left and right panels. I worked on the front panel until it finally got tangled up and ruined. To be honest, I think my painted on instruments look as good as the decals anyways (personal opinion).2
September 13, 2020Just painted the panel myself... if anybody uses a microscope to look into the cockpit, I think my little paint job is as good as the wonky decals.3
September 13, 2020This guy came out pretty well!4

September 20, 2020I'm impressed by this kit; it's coming together with really nice seams with little or no sanding/cutting.10
September 26, 2020OK so here we are post-paint. I am not a big fan of the historic camouflage livery, but I did want to get the blue/green ombre look. I also just used the olive drab that I already had, instead of getting the base green from the instructions. So it's a compromise. I also noticed after painting that I didn't do as good of a job of filling & sanding some of the seams as I thought... and I got over-eager unmasking the cockpit, so now I have to mask it again for clearcoat. Notes for the next one.11
October 3, 2020Decals, details, and clearcoat done. Bad lighting, crappy camera...12

October 3, 2020Lessons learned: Decals on this one didn't come out nearly as good as the P-59, even though I used microsol. I think that I had to move them too much, and the dry air here really knocks the microsol and water off them quickly. Next time, I'll paint microsol onto the back of the decal also. Also had issues with the landing gear, mostly from impatience. The ombre paint looks good to me. The cockpit glass is... better than the P-59, but I still need to work on my gluing technique.15

Looking good! I used to paint the parts on the sprues too.
