I'm also joining the group build with this 109G-2 in desert camo. I haven't figured out how to do the camo yet, but I have some time left to come up with a plan.😉

Great to have you here Björn...welcome mate, you're joining with a great kit...grab myself a front row seat!

Thank you mates! 🙂 And you are all welcome!
@Stefan, thanks that link could be helpful 👍, but right now I lean towards first sketching them lightly with a pencil and then brush painting on top.
It's been a while since I last built a 109, but I always am surprised by how small/compact they are compared to the competition.

Thanks Rui! 🙂
I've been a busy bee the last couple of days and finished the whole body of the plane and masked the cockpit, so next step is doing all the pre-shading.
26 October 2020, 20:48

Nice progress Björn...and btw great choice to make the desert version...👍!
26 October 2020, 20:52

Thank you mates! 🙂
Another update. I have finished the pre-shading. Next update willl hve to wait, as I'm waiting for the paint for the camo scheme to arrive.

Hi Björn, hat looks very pomising with the preshading..👍
But one note to the horizontal fusleage lines and shades. They weren't any with the original.
The 109 had a so called Shell-contruction of rolled metal sheet.
This pic shows a fresh outrolled 109

Thanks for the link and the extra information Daniel! 🙂
I was just following the riveting lines on the model with the pre-shading. But it will be easily fixed when applying the camo.

The base camo has been finished. Next will be some detail painting and decals, and after that, I will try to come up with a plan for the squiggly-lines.😉

Great build Björn! Really nice and subtle black basing there! 👍
4 November 2020, 15:55

Thank you Eelco, Nathan, Patrick and Erik! 🙂
I have applied the decals, and the plan now is to put a protective layer of lacquer clear coat before adding the squiggley lines. By doing so, I can always "erase" any mistakes with a bit of X-20A if I have to.
5 November 2020, 13:50

The current state of affairs. I've added a black oil wash and matt coated the plane. Now it will have to sit and wait for a while.😉
6 November 2020, 19:57

Thanks Stefan and Erik! 🙂
It might not have been the best decision to unmask the canopy as I have more work to do on the camo, but I just had to.😉 It really makes it come alive, as you say Erik.

Really a beauty...the variety of individual desert color tones is very subtle...so far well done Björn!

Thanks guys, but it's not finished yet, so I still have a chance to mess it up.😉
I added some pictures to show the progress with the squiggly lines for the camo. I made a test piece of a spare wing and tested to do it with the airbrush at low pressure, but my hand is just not steady enough to follow a curvy line, so I resorted to the old brush painting. I'm happy enough with the test piece to go on with that solution. I really liked the result before the squiggleys, so we will see how it goes.., I just may mess it all up..
@Eelco I'm using it on the air compressor right now, but I will be sure to put it back on the plane before finishing up.😉
8 November 2020, 22:30

Looks like a good solution Björn. I like the look of that test wing.
8 November 2020, 23:29

Thank you Nathan and Gerald! 🙂
I now consider this as finished. I will probably add some desert pigments later on, but I'm happy with how the plane looks in its current state.
Next, I will start work on the Kübelwagen.
11 November 2020, 10:24

Oh, quite beautiful work on a beautiful aircraft! I really like this model!
11 November 2020, 13:06

Thank you my friends for all your nice comments! 🙂
It was a great initiative by @Jos Jansen to start this group build! 👍
Otherwise this kit would probably have stayed in the stash for a while😉, but it was a really nice experience to build another Eduard kit.
