"L-737" GVF (Civil Air Fleet, Moscow) as per the decals supplied in kit.
12 October 2012, 00:21

Unless any russian friend can shed further light on this -- paint layout for "L-737" (GVF) shows pre-war "Zashchitnyi? on upper surfaces --with black civil codes. A bit invisible -perhaps AE-9 is more accurate ??

Will model this little gem with wings folded back for storage using Eduard etched hinges for BT-7 tank.

Research complete -and off we go. Interior colour -WEM WUP (this is meant to be steel grey </controversy> but that's a long tiresome tale. All exteriors, AE-9 light grey, wheel hubs, Steel grey. Will snag an MBR-2 generator prop for this build. Full interior cockpit to be scratched.

Greetings, Holger - yes it is. Some questionable design decisions by Amodel especially the lower wing assembly, but then it's Amodel -generally very accurate. Love 'em. And the Sh-2 isn't that small in scale actually - more or less as large as a Po-2/U-2.
Salut.
16 October 2012, 13:11

Yes, it will become a nice lil plane! Will you post some pix, here?
Groetjes!
16 October 2012, 13:30

Holger -- yes, certainly. Still obsessing about what external colour "L-737" would have had (first ever Sh-2 to be registered in the USSR). Obsess, obsess, obsess ... : (

Un-necessary update and royal pain in the arse #1.

Red line is where there's an almighty gap -right next to the hinges, lower side. Circular doo-dahs already added from contrail rod.
16 October 2012, 15:43

Damn sh***! That sounds like a putty, sanding, scraping orgy... May the sanding stick be with you!😢
16 October 2012, 17:55

Be shaken not stirred Mr Bond... If the gaps .007 mm, use your license too fill...
16 October 2012, 18:03

Gluefinger!!! The Man With The Gluegun!!! Models Are Forever!!! A Glue To Fill!!!
16 October 2012, 18:30

Licence to fill, Octoputty... Very good !
Honestly, more Austin Powers than James Bond -but my Bond girl is a cracker ; )
17 October 2012, 06:14

On with the build ... nipping down to MI6 Labs for a Q tip. brb.
17 October 2012, 06:49

With a .007 diameter?
Is the cockpit already done or are you still reasearching?
17 October 2012, 06:55

Yes, already done. All 2.5cm3 of it.
M-11 plumbing whilst it settles in.

Think this qualifies as a 'gotcha' moment.

Yep ! Research is 3/4 the battle, isn't it, Holger. So there she is ^ - "L737".
Pretty happy -the Pavla resin parts for Po-2 include skiis ideal for a Sh-2. Looking at the Amodel kit, couple of things are wrong for this machine -the second section of each N strut goes *inside* the cockpit. Do-able.
The decal for L-737 contains a poor representation of the '3' -and that's all the faults I can find. Got to love Amodel !
Salut, Holger.
17 October 2012, 10:10

That would become a lovely diorama!
Please tell me, what purpose had this aircraft? Military or civilian?
17 October 2012, 11:11

Its military, isnt it? And you are absolutely right, when you say that research is important and can make fun!
17 October 2012, 11:12

Holger -purely civil aircraft -fishery duties, coastal lookouts, arctic aviation, possible NKVD usage, air ambulance (most commonly modeled) --but basically a utility hydroplane equivalent of the Polikarpov Po-2 (which handled badly with floats), built in far fewer numbers. One or more exist today, one used to live at Yegorievsk Aeroflot school, but sold to a private buyer in the west.

Thanks for the info and the very useful link!
Its sad when only one survived, those unique aircraft tell a long and mostly very interesting story! Modelers of the world, build more, that these few will not be forgotten!
17 October 2012, 12:13

Amodel decal is:
"CCCP - X104" -should be white 'font'.
"Commissariat of Fisheries and GULAG NKVD. Had the word "Glavryba"

Sh-2 operator is Aeroflot. Joined December 14, 1931, as the Soviet Union, L737 (? Probably fail (sic) because mass production of W-2 was carried out in 1932, although not rule out the possibility that this is the first prototype of the Sh-2, produced by the factory number 23 in Leningrad in 1930). In 1932 he transferred to Osoaviakhim. Joined March 5, 1932, as CCCP - Ñ125. foto The documents indicate the serial number as "3566."
