As a little kid I was always impressed by the enormous bulbous nose of the ATL-98 Carvair. As with the 747, it’s just an impressive plane to behold. Now I’m older and I see it’s beautiful ‘ugliness’ ?, but still I’m impressed with it’s shape. So I wanted to build a 1:72 Carvair kit… but that’s a challenge! I only managed to find a conversion kit from Contrails Models LLC. The Formaplane vacform Carvair is very rare, so I ordered the Contrails kit. But that seemed to be very bad quality.. way out of shape, non fitting halves and deformed. Just vaguely shaped blobs. Well, here we go again. Sanding, cutting, sanding and lot’s of filler!
And I will make a cargo bay with cars in it, as the nose cone is also very bad shaped. When it’s open you don’t need to worry about ‘seamless fits to the fuselage’- issues
Zbynek Honzik Dick, fingers crossed you don't give up. You'll gather your strength and keep building. I'm sure you'll do well and finish the project. 👍

Dickautor I will build it Zbynek, and I'm also waiting for another nice1:72 decal version. There's not much choice in decal options in this scale 🙁
@bughunter: 😆😆Lol!
I really think I 'carved' almost 30% weight of the nose.. what a challenge this conversion.
@Cuajete: Thanks mate, much appreciated 😊!

I bought this resin conversion set for a 1:72 ATL-98 Carvair. I've always been impressed by the exotic shape of this weird looking cargo plane from the sixties.
As there is only a rare vacform kit in 1:72 scale (un)available, I decided to give it a try with this resin conversion set.
Donor kit is the Revell C-54 Skymaster, from which the nose section will be cut off.
The project is on hold, as it is a difficult conversion. The resin nose is correct but too wide for the Revell C-54 fuselage.. which is a problem, as I can't sand off more material from the resin parts, otherwise the flightdeck and nose will be too small.
