April 7, 2024Given the small number of parts to in this build, I went ahead and sprayed all the parts on the spruces with Mr. Surfacer 1000. The canopy is dipped in Quick Shine/Floor Finish.12
April 7, 2024Added a little depth to the guns.13
April 9, 2024Cockpit in Cockpit Green (IJN) XF-71. Used Chrome Silver to dry brush and some small amounts of Tamiya Brown Panel liner. The seat cushion was made with puddy, and then seat and headrest painted in Red Brown XF-64. Used the Micro Kristal Klear on the instrument panel (also dry brushed w/Chrome Silver).14

April 9, 2024Engine cowling, landing gear doors, rear landing gear are in Yellow Green XF-416
April 9, 2024Landing gear bay in Yellow Green XF-4. SIDE NOTE: Lots of gaps on the wings. Will need to fill those in and redo the landing gear bay paint.17
April 9, 2024Did something different with the landing gear "hub caps". I am planning on doing the nose cone and tail rudder in red so thought the landing gear should match up.18
April 9, 2024Believed I might have used too much force, cracked the tire. Ooops!19
April 10, 2024Engine assembly ready20
April 10, 2024Prop: Matte Black base, center in Aluminum XF-16, Metallic Grey XF-56. Cone Tip to hold prop in Metallic Blue X-1321
April 10, 2024Engine Radial/Pistons: Dark Iron XF-84 (cone/prop rod/firewall), rest was in Matte Black with Chrome dry brush and Dark Copper XF-28 lines.22
April 10, 2024Gun sights ready. Canopy masked and ready for spray paint.23
April 10, 2024CONFUSED: Not sure what to do with this "hole" in the right wing. Assuming this is for a light lens, but no parts provided nor any reference in the manual. Will sort it out with some spare clear parts from other kits if necessary.24
April 10, 2024Overdid the yellow area (XF-3). Bombs in Dark Green 2 (XF-89). Attachment in Chrome Silver and the bomb rack in Neutral Grey.25
April 10, 2024Rear wheel assembly26
April 11, 2024Ready to paint. Added some Tamiya Black Panel liner to see if it helps the panels come out. However the panel details on this kit is pretty light and I honestly lack the experience on how to bring it out (early on my use of airbrush techniques as well), but in due time.27
April 11, 2024Underside: Tamiya Neutral Gray XF-53, mixed with Tamiya Thinner 1:1.5 ratio (should have gone lighter).28
April 11, 2024Topside: Tamiya Olive Drab XF-62, Tamiya Thinner X-20A, and Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver. The respective ratio - 2:3:129
April 11, 202430
April 11, 2024Flat Red XF-7 markings on nose cone and tail. Lesson Learned: Over Diluted the paint with the Thinner so will correct the overspray and scratches on the Olive Drab once I paint the Allied Invasion Black/White strips and r31

April 12, 202433
April 12, 2024First attempt at making Invasion Stripes on a model. The tail ones are more troublesome, wings not so bad.34
April 13, 2024Believe this was my first attempt to do all airbrush camo. The grey on top was free hand, no masking to create the pattern. Only masked the red nose cone, and the belly invasion strips.35

April 14, 202438
April 14, 2024Quite pleased with how the canopy came out considering I created my own mask using Tamiya masking tape (no precuts).39
