the decals slide very well and do not tear. They also conform well with the raised details after applying some Tamiya Mark Fit

Sadly, a lot of the stencils do not line up with the wing lines at all and end up unused.

Panel lines at the bottom filled with a dark brown oil panel line wash. I focussed only on the big, visible panel lines, as the plane has a lot of raised detail.

Panel lines done at the top as well, along with some footstep usage on the wing roots. I'm struggling with these because the rest of the plane looks too clean, but at the same time I don't have any ideas how to "age" the plane alltogether to blend it in better.

Oil streaking on the side, very much work in progress. Started too wet, then too try, tried to find a middle ground that has both streaking and "puffyness" if that makes sense.

Ordnance was rather easy to mount, and I might have weathered them a bit too much for the rest of the plane

The wheels were much more tedious to mount, the landing gear bay doors all had to be sanded down significantly.

The front wheel is supposed to be mounted into a little hole according to the instructions, but that hole isn't actually in the landing gear bay. Superglue + bluetack will hopefully help.

Ladies and gentlemen: We have a tailsitter. Very unfortunate, the manual does not mention anything about adding weight.

Desperate measures: Adding steel balls and blu tack to the front gear bay as a counterweight. Spoiler: doesn't work. Last hope is filing down the front wheel - it might be too long on account of the missing pin hole.

I definitely want to give the rocket pods more details, maybe I'll sculpt some openings. They are too small to drill holes in with my pin vise.

Canopy is not fixed yet, also needs some touchups. Overall my masking has gotten better, but the front of the canopy is still rough.

All in all I am pretty happy with the final result - the matt coat really brought back that "sandy" feel.

I do have some Tamilya X-22, can it be mixed and sprayed with regular Vallejo airbrush thinner? Iirc it's not the same kind of acrylic paint as vallejo paints.

No, you need to use X-20A or isopropyl alcohol (won't work as well). It is alcohol-based rather than water based. It will not react if applied over or under Vallejo but it cannot be mixed.

I currently use X-22 for gloss and Vallejo flat clear for flat. I prefer to airbrush (maybe) less toxic solvents.

Originally just bought as a paint mule to try out desert tones before tackling the Tornado GR.1 Mig Eater, this project is also the perfect playground for me to try weathering effects, in particular heavy oil streaking. I'm still learning, especially when it comes to airbrushing and weathering, and I know my phone camera is not ideal for these photo shoots, so please be nice :>
