Album info

Su-25 belonging to 322th Tactical Squadron, 32th Tactical Air Base, Namest by Oslavou, Czech Republic was one of the most interesting Su-25 thanks to its color scheme. The unusual color scheme with a painting of a frog destroying a tank was designed by Arpad Molnar in 1991. The drawing of the frog was made by Ladislav Vana. The aircarft became famous thanks to numerous flying displays while flown by Mjr Frantisek Tabacko and later by Cpt Martin Hejra. According to the information found on the internet, the basic grey color was just a bare primer grey. While yellow paint was bought in the local shops. Greens and Brown were colors used to paint aircarft shelters and other buidings around the airbase. The Frog was airbrushed using modellers airbush and Humbrol paints.

The kit itself, is a good old Italeri kit initialy released in 1997. Hannants/Xtradecals decals used for this scheme. The only aftermarket part used for this kit is a pilot seat. Altough, the camo doesnt replicate exactly what was on a real aircraft, I think it captures the unique features of this colorful scheme. The hardest part of the build was the camo it self. I have used Blue tack to mask the camo blotches. Before application of the paint, it looked OK. However once the colors were sprayed and blue tack removed it revealed much more yellow between camo patched than desired. Ive learnt my lesson.
