Cage hinge mod

Here are the two parts that make up the main body. You can see in the molding where the hinged section is, and where my cutting took place.

Since it's now going to be exposed when up, I needed to fill in the parts that attach to it, both above and below.

Got the hinges rebuilt this evening.

Used a hole punch to make a couple round pieces for the knuckle of the hinge, which I then glued together for thickness. This was then attached to the cleaned up angled bits I'd previously removed.

I then drilled and cut brass rod to tie to the two pieces together. I also shimmed the angle barrel to make it sit correctly on the body.

Suggestions for scratch building the replacement hinges? I have the angled bits I cut from the barrel, but I need to recreate the knuckle.

Album info

I like the amount of customization that Joe did is his build (the forks, arms, shoulder, etc.), and have decided to follow his lead.

One thing I noticed in that intro scene with Ripley and the loader is that the cage is hinged open, allowing access to the seat. The kit doesn't offer this, so that was my starting point last night.
