It was used during the Spanish civil war. The largest unit of the Condor Legion was the AA unit.

Spain did not participate (officially) in second word war but i have heard stories of batteries trying to shot down allied planes flying over Spanish territory (while the greeted the german ones....). As Erik said, there was quite a participation in our civil war (36-39), where nazy Germany tested much of the "hardware". of course lots of it remained in Spain. to be honest I remember visiting the local army regiment in my home town in early eighties, and seeing an MG-42 there
also some WWII fims were shot in Spain because the Spanish air force had some German planes still flying back in the days. so, not that surprising that this 8.8 is part of a museum there 🙂

Interesting info! Thank you both! I am not that familiar with this kind of weapons. I alway thought that 8,8cm Flak appear in the middle of WW2.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.8_cm_Flak_18/36/37/41
firs models (flak 18) were used in spain, the experience was used to develop the model 36, and others like 41 came later.

Album info
In october 2016 we were for almost two week on holiday on island Mallorca. During this time we had a sightseeing tour around the capitol of the island, Palma de Mallorca. In the harbour-area of the city we went to the fortress of San Carlos which hosts a number of rooms with different weapons which were used to defend fortress.
To my surprise I found near the parking area a german 8,8 AA-flak. The info-sign shoes „88/56 FLAK FT-44“ as despription. But I can not say if this name is correct or not. I do not believe that this flak has been used by Spain during WW2.
Anyway – it is an decorative thing and it was worth to spot and show it here. Who want to know more about the museum:
