Mike - the Zimmerit is the Meng "decal" brand. Very detailed, very intricate, and very thin. I am a little worried as to whether it will show through when I paint, which I hope will be soon.

I suppose the zimmerit will be ok after wash. Except for MG cupola. I would propose to replace it with putty.

Just got the base coat painted. The Zimmerit is holding up fairly well though still a little flaky in places. I will try to post pictures tomorrow.

Actually going pretty well Ant. The Zim looks like a giant pain though! Look forward to more tomorrow mate!

Good thought James. I did that on a Tiger 1 forward machine gun ball mount when I had the same issue as Ant has had with this one.

Hey guys! First, thanks for the commentary. I uploaded another album with my most recent efforts on this project. After giving it a go with the paint, I think I am going to simply chip the Zimmerit at the two main pains (bow MG and front lower hull). I have to say that I liked this Zimmerit from a conceptual stand point, but it seems to create more issues than it resolves. Take a look at the pix and let me know what you think.

why not add the pictures to the existing album? then we can see the complete progress😉

Spanjaard - took your advice and moved photos to this album.
James C - i will be taking your advice on the Zimmerit. Keep your fingers crossed!

Peter - Not nearly as anxious as I am. 😉
Thanks for the support and I will keep plugging away.

Cool build so far, am I too late to grab a seat?
Wondering how the zimmerit on the front will look in the end! Seems to be very troublesome to deal with.
The tracks turned out pretty good looking, nice base to start with. And the worst part of the later german ww2 tanks... Loads of roadwheels, but very well done!

Bryn, Spanjaard, and Rene welcome aboard and you are not too late and thanks for the support. I hope to get some time with this project over the weekend.

final version? i would suggest clear cote, wash and matt cote.....
20 September 2018, 20:14

James, thanks!
Spanjaard - not final yet. I still have to decide whether/how much weathering to do, put on side skirts, paint camo, as well as paint and mount tools. I just wanted to show an update with the tracks. I still have a ways to go.

Peter, yeah I am leaning that way. I find that sometimes I reach level of contentment sooner than I expected. This time I really like how the tracks turned out and would hate to conceal them under dirt and mud.

Looks great that way Anthony...And no need to rush things... Like it a lot!
22 September 2018, 12:26

your own pace, your own choice 🙂 and have fun with it. we enjoy looking at it.

Then keep them as a visual interest Ant. Why not? You don't have to make an AFV look like it has just been rescued from the Somme. Take a look at Jim's new Jagdpanzer IV Lang. Nicely weathered and worn but nothing hidden from the viewer's eye.
22 September 2018, 21:50

I just checked out Jim's Jagdpanzer IV Lang and its simply impressive. I still wanna put the side skirts, schurzen, on as a special a feature I have eyed from the start with this kit. I may leave off one or so as wear and tear. Still mulling...
22 September 2018, 23:18

Mull all you want but don't loose sleep over it. Take a look through Alberto's wall while you are at it. If there is anyone better than him on wearing as opposed to weathering an AFV I don't know of them.
