1:72 Airfix DH88 Comet

A very old kit in a new box, quite basic and the artwork is much better that the contents! One must sand down the pilot's "heads" to allow the canopy to fit! 

Here is the kit before assembly.  

All of the seams need filler, though careful alignment when assembling reduces the amount needed. 

Masking the canopy is a manual affair on this one! 

On the bench nearing paint time. I leave the little parts until after painting if possible. 

Primed with Alclad Primer-Microfiller and wet sanded lightly with 1500 grit Tamiya paper. 

One coat of Alclad 2 Black Base, it is the shiniest black I have ever used! 

Decals on, starting to look the part. 

She is a beautiful aircraft. One coat of Future Floor Finish over the decals. 

Posed beside the Frog kit that I built 53 years ago! 

There are only 24 parts to the whole kit, it is very basic. 

Such a sleek aircraft for 1934! Really advanced. 

If you take your time, you can turn out a fairly nice model even from a very simple kit. 

A few days after I finished the model I applied the propellor decals. Silver enamel paint takes a long time to dry. 

Really a fun kit to build. Very simple and no extra details.
