February 26, 2023Alright so this is a bit of a story, the house I was renting with some friends had a chunk of it fill with ice and snap off of the house last winter. This was definitely a bit odd; I don't think we ever told the landlord about it either. I never met the landlord so I never saw the fallout of that thankfully.2
February 26, 2023Here's the chunk of house. I realized eventually that it was the perfect base for a diorama! (big mistake) I defrosted it over the laundry drain in the basement. It ended up nearly breaking into multiple pieces as the wood was so rotted. I had to put it back together with a screwdriver.3
February 26, 2023Here it is with the polystyrene that makes up the base added.4
February 26, 2023Another angle.5
February 26, 2023Initial planning on positions for everything. I'm not sure where the signs and lamppost came from as I got them in a bits lot on ebay.6
February 26, 2023Sawdust plaster mix applied. Yes, I did eventually clean the floor.7
February 26, 2023Here are all the figures. The military pieces have their weapons painted red while the civilians are painted green. Good luck figuring out the symbolism here. <- [this is sarcasm]8
February 26, 2023Base coat on the earth. Not totally uniform but it looked good enough for me.9
February 26, 2023One end of the diorama. Nothing is particularly well painted just because of how large it is and my time crunch.10
February 26, 2023Big time skip to it being nearly complete minus static grass. The wooden dowels are keeping the people standing upright. Lots of natural materials to make up for the lack of painting. I used railroad fill for the rocks under the bridge. You can tell I made the bridge myself as well. It's just plasticard, cardboard, and the Busch road construction set. I got it for 50 cents and never thought I'd get a chance to use it, but I did. It even says it was made in West Germany on the box.11
February 26, 2023And it's done. These were the initial pictures I took immediately after completion so the ground is still wet from the glue.12
February 26, 2023Shot from the level of the onlookers almost. I like this one the most13
February 26, 2023Another angle ft. Kotobukiya/Gundam boxes and my airbrush compresso14
February 26, 2023Side view: you can now see that I did actually clean the floor.15
February 26, 2023You can have a bunch of side views because there are just so many sides.16

February 26, 2023Last shot with the unflattering lighting.20
February 26, 2023I just took these recently. It's kind of dusty and doesn't fit into my lightbox so still nothing groundbreaking with the camerawork.21
February 26, 2023I tried to take angles that were unique from the ones I did right after finishing it. Dynamic camera positioning can help a lot I think.22
February 26, 202323
February 26, 2023I could have done so much better on the static grass here.24
February 26, 2023Drilling the barrel would have also helped a bit.25
February 26, 2023The poses on these people can be a bit awkward but I did what I could with what I had.26
February 26, 2023I do like the Roco figures here though.27
February 26, 2023Marching towards the end.28
February 26, 2023Alright that's it. Hope you liked this despite the oddity. I promise the next diorama is more of the same as before.
