HMS Bounty Build
1
March 13, 2023Gun ports cut out square instead of the circle on kit.2
March 13, 2023Rails cut to depict hinged rising bar above steps. Still need to make the upright supports.3
March 13, 2023Fore pin rails were originally moulded in the wrong position (red circles denote original moulding position) according to the Admiralty diagrams. Removed them leaving small bollards as per plans.4
March 13, 2023Fore pin rail cleaned up and waiting to be glued into correct position.5
March 13, 2023Port fore pin rail attached correctly.6
March 13, 2023Hawse hole drilled through hull as no holes are on the kit. The deck needs to be dropped slightly at the bow when fitted.7
March 13, 2023Testing hawse hole with hawse line.8
March 13, 2023Holes for the anchors need plugging and filling.9
March 13, 2023Holes plugged using the securing tabs from the anchors and Revell Plasto.10
March 13, 2023Piece of 0.5mm styrene sheet glued on to inside of the hull to stop plug from falling through.11
March 13, 2023Swivel gun stanchions removed and replaced with scratch built ones made from off cuts of sprue. They look more the ones in the plans. Only seven more to do.12
March 13, 2023Pilot holes also drilled into stanchions for swivel guns.13
March 13, 2023Lots of ejector pin marks on the deck filled with Plasto.14
March 13, 2023Marks dry and sanded down smooth. Deck planks now need re-scribing.15
March 13, 2023Windlass had a big sink hole in it. I could have left it as it will face the deck, but I knew it was there and it annoyed me.16
March 13, 2023Drilling the holes in the windlass.17
March 16, 2023I think I got a bit above myself with this one. I sanded the deck down as I felt the moulded planks were too small. I attempted to re-scribe the planks, but the deck was too flexible and I lost my lines. It looks awful, I know, but I don't think I can sand it down again and re do it.
Lesson for next time - make a jig or a support for the deck before attempting to do this job.18
March 16, 2023The top mast tops are cut and ready for shaping when the time comes to fit them.19
March 16, 2023On a more positive note, I am happy with my rudder and tiller for the launch.20
