Land Rover Defender Spectre

 

I spent like 3 days trying to figure out how to put this thing together. The C1 Models kit is super detailed...well the parts are at least. The instructions are seriously lacking. Included is a card showing how the external roll bars are assembled and online there's a video showing how the suspension goes together. But that's it. You're on your own to figure out what part goes where. The 3d printed parts are mostly labeled to show you what they are, but there's no direction on what parts from the donor kit get used or need to be modified. I'm like 90% there to figure out what I need/want to use from the Revell kit 

 

 

Because the Revell kit has a long open interior I had to add some styrene sheets to close off the interior from the rear wheel well...the two triangular pieces on either side of the front of the bed

Roll bars assembled. They didn't go together quite square so I'm gonna have to try to fix it during final install 

Everybody primed 

 

3d printed an LS3 motor and transmission, but had to chop most of it to get it to fit. Good thing the hood won't be opened 

Used the 4WD transfer case from the Revell kit but had to chop some off and add a styrene sheet to make it sort of fit and look ok to the engine. Luckily there's a frame cross bar that'll block most of the view after assembly 

No clue if this is how the rear seats are supposed to go. The lack of instructions is frustrating 

Needed to do lots of mods to get the interior floor to go in 

Revell frame with the 2" suspension lift from the C1 Models kit 

Decided to add a big ole coffee can exhaust on the back using different diameters of styrene tubing 

 

Like I said, lots of mods to get the Revell parts to fit in the C1 kit. Had to chop like 75% of the dash and fire wall to make it work 

Nicely detailed photoetched parts are included. This is diamond plate for the bottom edges of the body panels and across the hood 

Yellow lacquer on the body 

Gloss black grill and hinges 

 

 

Went with a tan interior 

Made the steering wheel a darker wood 

As well as dark wood accent panels to the doors 

And the dash 

Sprayed the off-road lights with a silver background and added clear yellow for the lights then topped them all with clear resin 

Tried flocking the floor. Turned out ok. More practice will let me work the kinks out 

Front bumper with winch ready to haul whatever you need

Red accents on the suspension to make it pop 

Gold brake calipers. Didn't want too much red underneath 

Went pretty minimum on the motor. Not planning on displaying with the hood open 

Exhaust looking nice 

Running boards and back bumper will make the whole thing pop when they're installed 

Frame complete and ready to roll...well not really roll. The wheels and tires are glued in place 

 

 

 

Interior complete. Need to wait on decals and glue to dry on the body before completion

One other complaint about the transkit...Using the Revell decals is fine, but make sure the new parts can accept the original decals. The speedo and tach decals are smaller than the dash recesses. It would've been nice to get some decals that fit the replacement parts 

But it didn't turn out too bad. Repurpused a few decals to try to make it look a little better then added UV resin to the insturment cluster and the "clock" 

All done. This one took a heck of a long time and was fiddly as hell. But it turned out pretty ok 

 

 

 

 

 

Found a sweet tilt trailer 3D file on Cults3D. Gonna eventually make a little diorama with this setup
