ESCI (ex-OEZ) Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21MF

Definitely looks like a MiG-21 to me Gary. I really like the camo in this one. Do you still use enamels?

Thanks gorby! Yeah, the paint job is its most redeeming feature I'd say. Yes, I'm still the "old enamelator", or is that "an enamelist"? 🙂

Every time you post some pictures I have to decide between getting motivated to reach your skill level, or getting depressed because I ain't there yet.
Great build (as usual)!

Oh thank you so much Martin! I'm not sure that I agree with your assessment but I sure do appreciate your vote of confidence and support. I have to tell you that most of the time, I feel way out of my league here at Scalemates. There are so many wonderfully talented model builders here that I feel I will never reach their lofty level of work either. As usual, I feel like my builds look best from about four feet away! 😉
Thanks again Martin for your very nice comments my friend! 🙂

I agree Gary (not about your models being best view from a distance, gulp) I'm often in awe of the skill of many of the modellers on this site. If it wasn't for the enjoyment I get from modelling, I'd just give up and ogle the stunning work of others, there is no way that I could have the patience, dexterity or perseverance to achieve such amazing work. And to think that many non-modellers think it's just gluing bits of plastic together….

I hear ya gorby! I will never match the "masters" here (or elsewhere for that matter) who turn out works of model building art. The level of scratchbuiding here is just unbelievable! But, that's okay. I accept my limits and just plow on. Really, at this stage of my life, I just want to finish more models and hope they turn out okay. Happy modeling gorby!! 🙂

Cortex and Oliver, many thanks for taking a look at the MiG-21, and I appreciate your comments too!

Man, I appreciate that so much James! Those comments of yours are inspiring in and of themselves; and I find lot's of inspiration these days here on Scalemates. I try to make those old kits look pretty good and some have held up okay over the years. I think a really great modeler could work wonders with that old OEZ kit. I'd love to see what you could do with one! Thanks for the kind comments mate! 🙂
Album info
Inspired by the outbreak of Desert Storm, or Gulf War One, I built this MiG-21MF in Iraqi markings and camouflage. So, it’s been languishing in the display cabinet since way back then, with no airport pictures taken. Even though it’s more than 20 years old now, I had never really taken “proper” pics of it. I finally took her over to the Coffield Regional Airport in Rockdale,Texas for a photo-shoot.
It is the ESCI 1/48 kit that was originally released by OEZ. The kit had two different top fuselage inserts for three versions of the fighter. I’d like to think that I have the skills now to avoid that awful step behind the cockpit, but I guess I was satisfied to leave it back in ’92. The Fishbed was built along with a Philippines Air Force Northrop F-5A “Freedom Fighter” as a sort of “export fighter” theme project. Both were popular planes enabling Third World countries a high-performance jet, representing both East and West blocs. I also note in the pics that the front LG was somewhat loose and is crooked in so
