On the weekend I finished the chassis. The wheel arches are mounted too. But befor that, I wanted toshow this exquisite engine. There are a lot of details and parts. Sadly, the engine will be hidden in the rear and only the top will be visible. It should be worth it, to build the powerplant seperatly and put it near the model kit for display.

Christian W АвторI painted the body black to get a better result for the final color. My experinces the last month told me, that somehow the edges and "panel lines" came through the paint and stayed brownish. To avoid that I decided to paint the whole car black. As you see, the edges and panel lines are well painted too. But .... after two days of drying, I have some scratches on the drivers side and the hood. Great. Love it like pest....

Christian W АвторStripping of the color didn't work on the first shot. Only the black paint was gone, not the primer. On top, the primer was week and sticky. So I decided to change Dowanol (the fluid, which is a paint stripper) because it can be, that it is to old. I thought. And was right. I never changed it since a hand full of years. I can't even remember, that I changed it anyway.
So I have to report, that the primer is gone and I can start with painting again.

Jakko Suspensions on wheeled armoured vehicles are always a lot of work — funnily enough, tracked vehicles are often actually simpler to build, even though they have many more wheels. Soft-skins like big military trucks are even more involved, BTW: the suspension is just as complicated as on wheeled AFVs but there are a ton more parts for the chassis, drive train, etc.

Christian W АвторI drilled the back of the headlights out and layed a layer bmaf on it. It is ok. When I tetsted an pair of headlights, the effect is not that big as when I painted the back just with chrome. I think it is the thickness of the headlights itself.
The I shortened the chassis. Good. At least, I fit testet the rear bumper again. Man, this is not the best of the kit. I think I repeat myselfs speach: I wish, I'd fit testet that before the paint job. And also the front facia beneath the grille. That fits not properly too in the width. I think, I have to life with that and I will 😄
Another challenge will be to get the wheels centerd in the wheel houses. Look at the different holes at the rear. They don't ven line up with the other side.... Awesom *rofl*

Christian W АвторI think, I've brought it to a good end. I had tlo glue the chassis well in plsce because it was bended "a little". Because of that, I drilled new holes for the axles to geg all wheels centered in the wheelhouse and on the ground.
I'm not satisfied with the overhang of the rear bumper. Leasson learned: do a fit festing also with the bodyparts on old kits.

Spence WilsonVery interesting in Red. Did you have a reason/inspiration/head cannon for the color? I have not done the MPC kit since I was a kid. I have heard of a lot of difficulties.

Christian W АвторThank you Spence Wilson! I built this KITT in the time, when I built my all Firebirds red - I have a 3rd gen in red 😉. I saw one in anthrazite on the internet and this was the point I decided, to have one fitting to my red Firebirds.
