I've started to build "Daisy". So far only base paint of the interior. This kit from Trumpeter is really nice with lots of details and some photo etched parts.

Great start Björn. Really nice interior 👍. Looks like a big one too.

Now the interior is all finished. I took a few photos before closing the fuselage. Most of the details will not be seen again😉.

Gloss black all sprayed in preparation for the polished aluminum. Never done a metal look before.. Scary D:

She looks fine. If you're using Alclad alu, just be sure to varnish asap. Otherwise you run the risk of tearing of the paint when masking for other paints.

Thanks guys!
@Martin, thanks for the suggestion! Masking has worked out well, so far..
A hughe releif when the SAS Dragon head came out well. I still have all the text and the swedish/danish/norwegian flags to mask and paint, but now I'll have a break and a well deserved beer 🙂.

Today has been all about masking and painting the text on the sides of the plane. It worked out really well. I also added the red on the dragon head. Next will be the national insignias.

Lookin' good. But why is there a gap in the blue line? Is that where the door is supposed to be?
15 November 2017, 17:33

Looking good so far Björn 👍 . This particular aircraft has a very interesting history, really nice to see it being built in 1/48.
15 November 2017, 18:45

Thanks Mats and Martin!
@Martin the gap is where the national insignias will be. I'm working on them now 🙂.
15 November 2017, 19:11

Thanks Clifford and Erik!
The SAS logo with the national insignias are now finished. It was a little tricky to get all the masks to line up correctly.

Thanks guys!
I've done some touch ups on the paint after handling the fuselage for all the masking and now I'm only waiting for my aqua gloss to arrive so I can seal it and do final assembly.

Great looking interior and engine detail, Björn! The NMF and SAS logos look fantastic! Great job!
17 November 2017, 11:24

Thanks Essi and Gordon!
I actually made a mistake on the SAS-logo text. The letters should have less spacing in between them.

The DC-3 is finished! 🙂
This was a really nice kit to build. It had some PE parts and rubber wheels. Also the elevators and the rudder are poseable.
23 November 2017, 15:51

certainly a gorgeous model, it does look really great. excellent NMF. 60 cm, that is certainly a big fellow!
23 November 2017, 18:15

Thanks Spanjaard and David!
Yes, these 1/48-scale planes are big. And I have a couple more coming...
23 November 2017, 19:53

Thanks Erik!
@Spanjaard I don't really have the space either, so I have to find some...
This, though is a present for my brother on his birthday.
23 November 2017, 21:35

Fantastic looking DC-3, Björn! It really turned out nice. I am sure your brother will appreciate it.
24 November 2017, 01:25

Thank you mates! 🙂
The Trumpeter kit is a very nice kit to start with. I'm planning to build another version of Daisy in her war time livery in the future. She participated during D-Day and is still flying here in Sweden.

Very nice work!
How you made the masks for the text? With a cutting plotter, laser or by hand?
16 September 2023, 17:49

Thank you bughunter! 🙂
The masks for the dragon head, the flags and the text was cut with a cutting plotter.
