I'm really sorta' struggling to reconcile an ambulance APC with an anti-aircraft machine gun on the roof.

How the heck do I get one? That was my first real vehicle, and I'd like to build a model of it.

I actually owned two of those (full-size, driveable, fast) cars in the late 1970s through the latter 1980s. The second one was only a parts car with no drivetrain and no interior; the PO put that glorious engine into a Ford pickup. Now they're selling for an insane price - both the cars and the models of them.

Anyone: be mindful if you build this one and want to weather it. Never add rust to the hull; it was aluminum, not steel.

The Three Caballeros project, near completion. I have other photos but the focus is trash.

Mine just arrived, so of course I peeked into the box.
I have three words: "oh", "emm", and "gee". These are the kits that make even Tamiya look like a ham-fisted hobnail-wearing buffoon. Takom and MiniArt are "pinnacle" brands; it's impossible to imagine anything better. Many of the parts in the kit are intricate beyond belief... like human-hair delicate.
I hope I can do this one justice. I'll hate, even, to paint it for fear of accidentally hiding or even dulling some tiny detail behind the paint layer.

If you buy one of these, then you'll need a saw to remove the parts from the (gigantic) sprues.

This was a miserable model. It was full of heavy flash and mold mismatches. Fit was poor and detail was muddy throughout. The kit couldn't figure out what it is, really... some parts were clearly M38A1, some were Willys (Pre-1972) CJ5, some were post-1971. The roll bar was a pure fantasy, so I made my own accurized roll bar, besides replacing the Hurricane engine with a post-1971 AMC V8 and adding a snowplow and a front crossmember. The plastic appears to be polyethylene or polypropylene or ABS; it was super-flexible and wanted very badly to remain unpainted. Even Vallejo primer didn't want to stick to it. Fortunately, it accepted Tamiya cement well.
One sprue was even clearly marked "ERTL". 😎
This would make a good practice kit for a beginner or for someone who hasn't built anything for fifty years, just to get the crud out of your knuckles. It might also make a good heavily rusted junkyard diorama piece.
Round 2 doesn't seem to have much pride in their MPC line. I believe I'm going to generally avoid any newer MPC-branded models in the future.

ScaleMates seems to keep forgetting that I'm logged in when I use the Chrome browser. For example... I log in. I immediately go to "Contribute". Sometimes I'm told that I'm not permitted to because I'm not logged in. Sometimes it permits me to proceed, so I scroll down to "Missing Instruction Sheets (NEED YOUR HELP) and select the top model in that list. That takes me to that model's page, where I scroll down to "Instructions" and click "Upload". This time, every time, I'm told that I'm not permitted to do that because I'm not logged in. Except that I clearly AM logged in; my name is at the top right of the page as of the instant that I click "Upload".

Login, immediately logout. Close browser. Start browser and login again. Sometimes the closing browser part can be skipped.
This pops up every now and then and isn't your fault

Unfortunately, now ScaleMates just "unexpectedly disconnects" every time I try to upload (PDF) instructions for kits that lack them.

The GSX' PDF is ... lessee. It was a good-sized bunch of instructions. It came to 33 meg.
The AMT '29 Model A (also failed) came to 24 meg.
The Revell '30 Model A Couple (failed) was 38 meg. Also a really hefty bunch of instructions.
The Revell '37 Ford Panel Delivery (failed) was 16 meg.
The AMT '32 Ford Roadster (failed) was only 7.7 meg.
At some point, if I wait long enough after trying an upload, ScaleMates always "unexpectedly closes the connection".

Bad ERTL. That's a CJ5, but ERTL labeled it a CJ7.
2 May 2024, 22:32

Even stranger... the model, and the instructions, are CJ7. Only the box art is CJ5.
