The engine parts of the kit are wonderful - only cleaned and painted.

The kit offers a big amount of exhaust options: two outlets with different types, one central outlet or individual pipes for each cylinder.

A bearing for the propeller is prepared, which fits into the engine.

The kit brings a little PE sheet mainly with instrument panel and seat belts.

The inside was painted in a light aircraft gray according to the manual.

The cockpit is mainly oob, with impressive small parts. I added only some wires for fuel lines etc.

The upper cockpit area of the kit looks a bit like taken from the blue/white "Winnie Mae", with a lower pipe and some vertical gray parts. Those are the fuel gauges.
Back to Amelia plane of the Smithsonian: I found there a 360° cockpit view picture. To avoid her hair come into a control wire there was no pipe but a sheet of metal. And the area was not wood but red. So I bend a stripe of alu sheet.

The front is closed by a part which carry also the instrument panel: kit decal, painted PE part on top and glass from "Kristal Klear". I guess it will not very visible ant the end.

There is a huge gap on the lower surface of the ailerons! I heard that this was a misinterpretation of the Wylam drawings by Dora Wings. The nice ref pics shown some metal there, so I bend special profiles with a 90° inner corner and glued those to the wing. Secured with many pieces of 0.15mm wire.
On lower part of the picture you see a recess.

The kit instructions shows the mounting of four landing lights, two in nose wing and two below the wing. So I asked myself: Does it make sense? and checked the ref pics: No landing lights in wing nose! The painting sheet on last page show that too, but I have not checked this before.
But instead cover the recess with a clear part I shaped a landing light into the wing, with a little bulb in the middle.

I used Future as clear coat but was not aware that it reacts so badly with Gunze Mark Setter! I came off, make bubbles, get white ...
Really pity 🙁

I stopped using Futura after I ruined two models (craquelure). Futura is a floor polish, and there are many excellent lacquers for models right now.

And yes, I also noticed that sticker fixing liquids can leave traces on paint and varnish.

What a Bummer. For me, i use quick shine (Future) on top of layer of clear coat. Never had any reaction with that process while building my gundams where I want a shiny finish.

Rotten luck! I must say that I also experienced decal solvents softening up the underlying paint or clear coat. My solution to such problems has been using "mules", whereas I mimic the painting and finishing sequence on a junk model prior to doing it on the real build. Anyone else doing something similar?

Luckily the cowling and the shoes are not affected - here I have not used Future.
No, I don't use a junk model. I usually try to stick to known methods/combinations. I have used Future already below decals, but with Micro Set/Sol.

It doesn't look like anything beyond your skills to repair. I'm sure you will manage. It's just a bummer when these things happen since they're so unnecessary. But that's part of the process and how we learn I guess. I make things more difficult than they need to be all the time. But it still surprises me when others better than myself have these mishaps. I thought I had the monopoly on having to fix screw ups.

i had the same experience. but it is not always happening. I coated whole model with future, but only a few places had reaction effects like that. Don't know why

Today a letter arrived from Switzerland with used decals - but the golden fuselage stripes are included! Many thanks Jacqueline 👍
Now I can sand down the top layer and repaint, and then have a second try.

That's very odd. I've never used much Gunze products, and I've never seen that happen with Tamiya, but it still seems odd.

Maybe it's the modeling gods way to keep you and your projects mortal... they don't like your models challenging their divinity. 🙂
