@Gorby: I used your line, nearly verbatim, with my non-modeling unit. There was a pause, followed by a rather unsympathetic laugh ("laugh" is me putting it rather mildly). Hope that answers your question… 😄
@Marius: Thanks much for the watch-outs and recommendations. I did study your builds as part of my research, very helpful. I'll definitely watch the gun symmetry. I did encounter the stabilizer gap issue already, what a pain to fix! With regards to the air exhaust (I presume you are referring to the jet exhaust fairing), I still have some detailing to do there so again thanks for the reminder. Thank you again for following and making recommendations.

Aha! Those are definitely on the list. Alas, next one will be of slightly earlier vintage and from a less savory kit producer 😉. But, it will sport the Czech rounders 👍

I "only" wondered about the scale. I spotted the 1:35 scale and was sure that there is no kit in this scale, then I found the "scratch build" on on of your pics.

Glad you liked it gents, it was a great event. The "Humor in modeling" category is always fun to see and this year there were some great entries (they can sometimes be, ehm, not very imaginative...). As far as the age of attendees goes, that is indeed the hot topic within IPMS-USA membership. Steps are being taken to attract younger modelers (a separate Gundam category will be at next year's contest).

Yeah, the dioramas was not that well represented at these Nationals (just my perception) but what was there was very good. Pics 34+ are by Steve Hustad: he does incredible 1/72 scale dios, mostly wrecked German stuff. I sat through his seminar, makes me wanna do a dio 🙂

Right? Those figure painters are next level, and I mostly took pics of the larger figures as the small ones are just too small for my eyes without the Optivisor 😄
