Ian Doody autorJust picked up the 15" 1/48 Space 1999 Hawk Mk IX Interceptor. Looks to be a very nice kit. Pleasantly surprised at the details, nice heavy plastic. I really wanted a big one of these, and this is the largest I could afford, so far it's well worth the money. Plus I bought it straight from the Gerry Anderson site, as it was cheaper than anywhere else. Thinking about scratching a cockpit interior for it, although in the show it didn't have one. Not sure what version I'll do, pre production, from the episode, or a custom version. But it'll be a fun build.

Ian Doody autorThat's me done for today. Managed to get the engine in its cradle, just some wiring, piping and small details still to go. Unsure about fitting the dust skirts around the fuel tanks and engine, as it'll obscure the detail. Hmm.

Ian Doody autorWorking on the suspension today, very basic but does the job, decided against using the metal suspension parts, as I don't think they add anything. Added strengthening bars to the engine cage, added the suspension anti roll bar. Built and painted up one wheel and tyre for a dry fit. Looking good so far. Painted with scale75 and Vallejo acrylics, weathered with Vallejo, other watered down acrylic and ink washes. Not bad for a vintage 70s kit. Still a load of wiring and plumbing to go in the engine bay.

Ian Doody autorWIP, 1983 ROTJ Airfix/MPC A-Wing Light Starfighter. Getting there, still deleting details. Airfix has the crappy tinted canopy, may switch out with a scratch built one from a F-14. Guns will be all converted to brass rod and wire detailing, need two cheap Revell 1/48 F-16 air intakes for the rear hyperdrive engines, as the kit part is naff. Side Torpedo launchers will be cut out and scratch built. I've already moved the rear central bulkhead further in so it's more scale. I won't actually use the landing gear, it'll be on a stand eventually. Size comparison to the 1/72 Rogue Squadron A-Wing I built last year
